Hi Karl,

You can search the government website at:
PrivateHealth.gov.au

Take a look at Private Health Insurance Australia - iSelect since they have a selection and you can specify what you are looking for. Medibank seems popular but we went with gmhba.
There's a product review site at Health Insurance Reviews for Australians but they don't have many reviews.

As with any insurance until you make you need to make a claim you never know how good they are....

Regards,
Karen

A few things I guess...
  1. I knew someone who was using it and they told me about it
  2. It's run for the members benefit since they don't have shareholders.
  3. Partly the price - we don't have kids and we're not a young couple either but some insurances automatically add costs for IVF and obstetrics that we won't be using!
  4. You can pick and chose between different sorts of hospital cover (if you end up there) and also levels of extras (such as dental, opticians etc.) so we could choose what suited us.

There is a quote system on the site so that you can compare it to other companies. We've only recently taken out the insurance (although we've been here nearly a year ) so we haven't had to use it yet.

Regards,
Karen
