cost of living

hi

iv wanted to get out of britain now for a long time and finally plucked up the courage to try and do something about it. the logical place to go is australia as my husbands job is supposed to be in demand and my brother also lives there. however since looking in to living costs etc including car prices there doesnt seem to be a lot of difference in prices we pay over here in britain and car prices seem to be double of over here please can anyone tell me if this is right???

also as i said my husbands job is on the demand list but there doesnt seem to be a lot of jobs advertised of that occupation, is this a dream i should really let go of??

Welcome to the forum.

Some things cost more and others less. Food seems to be more expensive here (or at least where we are since we're in a rural area) but the quality is better. For cars it depends on what you buy - my 2 year old Hyundai was cheaper here than it would have been in the UK.

Some costs depend on areas such as housing. There is no way that a 4 bedroom detached house with 2 bathrooms, and 2 living rooms would have only cost us the equivalent of £140,000 where we used to live (just outside London our 3 bed semi was about £380,000!).

What is your husbands job? Have you checked out several websites in all areas?

my husbands line of work is an eletrical overhead powerlinesman which gains him 60 points iv looked at various job sites for all locations but the only place that comes up is hays i presume this is an agency?

englands prices for everything at the moment are just becoming a joke
and house prices are rapidly decreasing here so im scared we're loosing all our equity and not actually able to afford a lot for our money over there
