Smile Basics for a complete beginner!

Hello - where do I begin please?

Part time staff nurse 19.0hrs per week looking to try a year in Australia by taking an NHS career break and renting out my house. Single parent to a six year old girl.

I am 39 and as I haven't been working 20 hrs per week - (even though I often have to stay an hour extra) so I don't meet criteria of 175 visa. I assume I have to apply on a 457 visa and have a job in place before I leave. Is this my only option please? (bit confused on visa types)

What is the first thing to put in place? register with nursing board in Australia? or apply for visa? or look for job? I don't want to leave until end of this year or beginning of next as I need to save up for flights/accommodation etc. I have no idea on timescale of anything !

Ideally want to work in Brisbane/Gold Coast area South of Brisbane. Anybody out there just past the 1st stage or further?? any idea on visa costs, nursing registration costs? and order of tasks/time scale.

Help and advice greatfully received - also wanted to do it all independently to save costs and thought it better to apply direct to hospitals rather than use a nursing agency - any info around this please

Thank you very much - sorry for long confusing waffle

Hi nursepom,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you read through the sticky posts at the top of the forum? If not they may help with some of your questions.

There are nurses on here so either do a search for their posts or hope that they reply to this one.

Regards,
Karen
