Default Career advice

Hi I'm new to these forums,

This may be off topic but I was hoping there may be someone who can advise me. My girlfriend and I have long dreamed about moving to Au, she is currently working on finishing her teaching degree where as I got my degree in web design.

I understand that she stands quite a high chance in gaining entry and having a great career there where as I believe my degree isn’t that strong. While this move may not happen for a few years, can anyone suggest what sort of work/training I can get into so that it would be beneficial for me to have a strong chance of a career when we move over?

Right now I'm 21 and there is like 5% chance of me gaining a industry trade due the amount of companies only taking on school leavers.

Thanks

Hi Sinister,

Are you based in the UK? If so it may be worth going to an expo and asking some of the agents and businesses there your question.

I would check out the trade assessment body for your industry (I would assume it's the Australian Computer Society but it's worth checking this), and seeing what qualifications they recognise. I joined the British Computer Society and sat the lowest level professional exams to advance me career in the UK. It actually didn't help that at all but I think it did help when it came to moving to Australia.

Regards,
Karen
