Question General advice?

Hi Everyone,

I have been thinking about a move to Australia for a few years, but never really looked into it much. I'm now really considering this and I'd like to have a goal to work towards so that this might be possible in the next few years.

There are a few stumbling blocks for me, and I'd be grateful for any advice to overcome these, or for someone to just tell me to give up as I'd have no chance.

Firstly I don't have a degree, or any formal qualifications higher than GCSE's. I am slowly working towards a degree with the Open University, but this is someway off.

I also don't have a 'skilled' occupation. I work as an administrator at a University, and have pretty much done this kind of work for 18 years (I'm 33 by the way).

I am starting to think that I will need to get a qualification and even re-train in something else to ever get to Australia....

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
Jo

Hi Jo,

Welcome to the forum.

For most visas you will need between 12-24 months current work experience in your nominated job,and that job must be on the SOL.

You could re-train for a job on the SOL and then accrue the work experience.

Thanks Dolly.

I have looked through the SOL, there is an occupation on there very close to mine, Medical Administrator. I'm assuming that the way they confirm your occupation is through references from employers? I guess my problem in the UK is finding a job after re-training, I dare not leave my current job in this climate in case I don't find another one...

Did I read that when the new rules coming in in July 2011 they won't have an SOL? I tried to read the information, but it just confused me even more.
