Question On birth of a baby - for expats

Hi All,

We are planning to move to australia as I got a project over there.
My wife is 5 month pregnent, I my worried how the things will work there at Sydney.

Can you suggest few good hospitals at Sydney, and what would be the cost for delivery etc.? (If possible pls forward contact or weblinks for those)

Or can I buy any insurance policy of any australian company in the 6th month of pregnency?

Thanks in advance for your valuable feedback.

Regards
Pret

It will depend on your visa whether you can have the pregnancy covered by Medicare or not. If you have PR you will be fine. Can't comment on hospitals until you know where you'll be living. The Sydney Metro area covers a large area and a hospital an hour's drive away wouldn't be too much good.

Usually whatever insurance you had at the time your wife became pregnant is responsible if a new policy doesn't take over. I don't know how that works if you leave the country, though. The first thing you should do is ask your current insurer. Also, if you are being transferred, your employer should take care of it and make sure you are covered.

How pregnant will she be when you move? They won't let her fly after seven months. Flying actually can induce labor because of the decreased air pressure.

hi I was checking out this as we were planning our next baby before going to Australia and depending on when we got the Visa back we could have been traveling when i was pregnant. but your wife could attend a public hospital from the information i got back they are very well run and just as good as private ones if you check out a web site called Bellybelly .au.com they have lots of information on the hospitals and the girls there are very nice and be only to happy to help. i think as soon as you land in Australia you can get Medicare check out the Australian web site they have all the info on that.
Hope that has helped Good luck
