Default July new points system

Hi can anyone advise as to how the system is changing in July? I currently don't make the grade as job not on shortage list but I have degree, 13 yrs work experience etc - 35 yrs old.
The way I read it I believe I may have a better opportunity come July.

Any help appreciated.

The point system is being completely revamped and as of July will be the only the new system in effect. The new system favours skills and experience more so is an advantage for some. So if you're not meeting the current point system but are meeting the new points system then prepare your documentation to apply in July.

You might wish to start filling out skills assessments/forms now and then be ready for July to file them.

Thanks for your response. I am totally new to this so apologies if this a stupid question.
What is the process with a skills assessment form? Is it a form I download and send with visa app or something I need to do prior to visa app?

Thank you

It's something you do before the visa app and its to an expert agency (i.e. Engineers Australia for Engineers, ACS for IT professions). They then assess your skills, degrees/certs and see if you meet the equivalent skill in AU. They then give you a resulting letter based on that. It is that skills letter that you send in with your visa application.

Search for assessing agency on the Immi.gov.au website to find out the appropriate one for your skill/occupation.

Have you read the "Thinking of emigrating" sticky? There's a link to a PDF with info on new points... they certainly favour experience more now.
