Default First Steps

Hi everyone, My husband and I are thinking about emigrating to Australia. We are both Engineers in the Royal Navy and are due to retire in 4 1/2 yrs. We would like to move but we are unsure of the jobs available. I have looked at various websites but would like to gain a true reflection of the job market over in Australia.
Could anyone be able to help?
I have a Bsc (Hons) Engineering and Management, various other qualifications mainly in diesel/petrol engines and 19 yrs experience in marine engineering and my husband has 26 yrs as a Marine Engineer and various qualifications, also qualifications in welding and A/C.

Any info would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

Lolly

Hi there Lolly,

Welcome to the forum.

Firstly, before you research anything you'll need to see if your jobs are on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Once you've established that at least one of them is on the list, you have enough points to be able to apply for a visa, and you won't be over 45 at the time of submitting your application then start the process of job availability, areas to live, cost of living etc.

You could have a look at some employment agencies to see what's around for your skills:

SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site
Jobs, Employment & Careers @ MyCareer
Employment Agencies | Australian Employment Agency Directory

Hi Dolly,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

We are able to apply for a visa, i have already spoken to an immigration officer, who filled me in on a few details and informed me of the new changes soon to be implemented.

Thanks for the website addresses

Lolly
