Default Fast Track of 457 visas for skills needed in Flood affected regions

Immi is fast tracking 457 applications for trades and skills needed in Flood affected areas where local labour supply is insufficient. This should be of great interest for those with trade and building skills.

Helping Deliver Skills for Flood Reconstruction

The main task will be to find a sponsor.

Please ask on the forum. You may PM me through the forum after 5 posts but it's better to keep the information public as that is how most people benefit from this site.

Hi amaslam any info on getting a sponsor would be greatly appreciated. How do you get sponsors is there a specific job site for this?or do you have to keep sending cvs off?I looked on the link you provided and my hubby has a farming background and ive worked in a bed and breakfast for a few years so we have plenty of experience I also do a lot of gardening and he has years of experience in excavation work tractor driving and rigid trucks.any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

Basically you need to contact all of the companies in the field individually. There is no central website and this is the main challenge independent of the visa process. Some sponsor and others do not. But all Immi is saying here is that if you find a sponsor and its for the affected areas they'll fast track the applications.

It really comes down to your interviewing skills and experience. Spoken English needs to be good and some people get jobs in a matter of weeks and some spend 6 months or more.

Anytime you change jobs there is a risk. It's just a part of life.

As for the 457 I assume you were also an applicant (secondary) on your wifes 457 so should have a visa as well.

Your wife can change jobs but it is a bit risky as Immi doesn't give much time to do so (28 days). As for IELTS I don't think you need it for a 457. If you go for PR then you do.

The rules for the primary applicant leaving changed in 2009 so it is best you get your own 457 (as a primary) in case you're considering it. Then you minimise the risk of Immi saying to leave the country.

My doubt is when I get job , the company which I join will be able to process any seperate visa for me so that I can make my wife as dependant.
