Question What are my chances of getting registered?

I am a nurse with four months experience and I have been offered a job in Innisfail, I want to move by November and am in the process of applying for my registration in Queensland. Do I stand a chance of receiving registration and if so would I then find it easy to aquiring a visa? I have a Husband and two children, would they be able to move on my visa or would my husband have to apply for his own? All help greatfully received Ta.

Hi Toria,

If you do a search for nurse you'll find several posts from nurses who are moving to Queensland (the search is top row with black background, 3rd from the right).
I think that your husband and kids are included in the one visa but check the posts since I'm not a nurse and didn't come to Australia on that kind of visa.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Toria,

As a registered nurse, you shouldn't have too many problems getting registration; clean record etc.....
Rgistration with the state boards can take about 12 weeks++; i am at week 10, still not heard!

Getting a visa; we waited 6 weeks for a medical appointment, but our nearest panel doctor may be busier than others! Shop around for a better deal (£916 for 6 of us!, x-rays are extra, and yes, you will need bloods; hiv hep b+c).. Under 12's dont get x-rayd.......but you will need their vacination records.

Many oz health companies offer business visa 457; but you can apply independently for PR. Visa can take another 12 weeks.

Hope that helps.
Good Luck with the move
Jane

Also, your application covers the family....
Hubby would be able to work as well

Have you checked out any agencies? There are many to look at, check them out in the bulletin; nursing standard or the times!!!!

Most are pretty good at offering advice; some don't even charge! You will though have to pay for the medicals/ registration etc

I am also a Registered Nurse applying for PR, before looking for a job in Queensland. I just wanted to know if anybody knew what shifts the RNs work in the hospitals in OZ. In South Africa we work long 12hour shifts and I find that pretty Exhausting! What are the expectations on RNs there, because here we do everything for the patient as well as carry out all DR's orders, draw blood, dressings etc. I have been told we spoil our Dr's here as in OZ Dr's do their own bloods, dressings etc! How true is that??

Hi Dewey,

I think in Oz shift patterns vary from place to place; company to company.
I talked to several hospitals and found that most private ones offer (almost universally) a monday to friday pattern. It may be just in my speciality of theatres and recovery, as i can't see the wards offering such a cushy ride

State run hospital was similar to the UK covering a 7 day week. With days off at some point during that period.

I expect many places are open to negotiation, especially if you work in areas like ICU; Theatre; Neonatal care.....where longer shifts are becoming increasingly the norm.

Having spoken to a few UK expats, they have all said, they are less stressed out, the workload whilst similar is nowhere near as pressurised and they have positive work/life ratios; sure beats the NHS!!!!

Good luck with your move
Jane

That will make another one then
I have actually quit my NHS job because of the hassle and bullying; looking forward to going to South Oz myself.
Take care

Hi Toria,
you will need an application form from the state board of whichever state you're hoping to work. Each state has a website for its nursing boards; that bit is fairly easy.

You need NMC confirmation, they will send you another form to supply details etc. Costs £35, but they will pass on the information to a max of 5 boards!
Transcript of training from your college/ uni...... this also costs and the fee is set by the college.
Copies of your registration card; certificates etc.......

Still the process is taking too long; week 12 for me, and still no sign! I have hassled the state board, to little effect

Hope that helps
TC
