Something just popped into my mind, it's that thing everyone wants lots of, but causes so many problems...MONEY! I know you need to have a certain amount of money when immigrating to Australia so you can prove that you can support yourself whilst looking for a job, but, how much exactly do you need for each visa?????

It depends what Visa you get..... If its skilled migration you don't need a cent.

True. Just make sure you've got covered money for short term rental, deposit for long-term rental, maybe a hire care for the first couple of weeks and then if you need it buy a car. Food (we did a shop in Coles yesterday - family of 4) and it was over $300. It's normally around the $250 area (we've been here 8 months now and have seen a considerable rise on the food shopping bill). So if you haven't got a job when you move over make sure you've got enough to cover 6 months food shopping (just in case).

If you check out the visa types in the "PLEASE READ..." post that will tell you what is required for the different types of visa.

I've not heard of that amount needed but I'm not an agent.

Karen

I have to disagree about skilled sposored visa'a you still need to pay for document verification by a solicitor, medical fees and registration if you belong to a professional body, We have a 457 and the costs have been at least a couple of grand (£) before flights etc for a family of 4

I think that they were talking about a certain amount that you needed to bring into the country for a visa rather than the costs of a visa.

I agree that even applying for a visa isn't cheap but it is worth it

Karen

Hi There,

Other than the fee that you would be spending during the entire process, you practically need nothing. Whatever you would be carrying in terms on money will be for your own self. As much as you get, the easier will the life be fro you once you reach. To start with, you would need the money for accommodation once you arrive, the cab fare from the airport to the accommodation, if you plan to rent an appartment, you would need the cash up-front that is given as a security, other than that money for day to day life, like travel(depending on the mode you choose, cab or the bus/tram etc). Till you take up a job all the daily expenses will have to be taken care of by you. Infact depending on the salary that is paid there(weekly or monthly), you would need money till the time you dont get your first pay cheque. As per my consultant, approximate expense for a single person is 1000A$ per month, and this figure covers mare basics and not luxurious living. This is the cost which is mentioned at various sites as well for backpackers/students.

Hope this helps.
