Default TRA Pathway D - Update

This update has come through regarding the revival of the much missed Pathway D:

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations have finally responded to lobbying from the MIA in relation to a replacement for "Pathway D".

The exact nature of the new pathway has not yet been determined and the MIA will be formally consulted next week as DEEWR is working to a tight timetable that aims to have the new pathway introduced from 1 August 2008.

So far there is only speculation about the way the new Pathway D will work (for example, it has been suggested that possibly applicants will be given the option of demonstrating their skills through a skill-testing arrangement), but I will post up more concrete info as soon as it comes to hand.

Hi,

We are very interested to know how the new 'pathway D' pans out, as we have just decided to take the big step of moving to Australia, having done heaps of research. I went online to start the ball rolling (paper work wise) and hit our first (pretty hard) brick wall...

My husband is a self employed roofer, he learnt his trade through working for another company & learning from the boss, on an informal training, he has now owned his own successful roofing company for 5 years.

We are really hoping that this isnt going to ruin our dreams... We had no idea that pathway D had been taken away in September (if im honest I had no idea about 'pathways' at all, we just thought Australia needed skilled roofers & that is what my husband is) We have 2 children aged 15 & 5 years, we are aged 32 & 30 & thankfully in good health, no problems with record checks etc..

I suppose now we just sit & wait for August 1st... (But I suppose it could be worse)

Do you have any clues about what they may do? Do you think it will be hopefull for people like us? (We hope so )

Kindest Regards,Kelly.

Hello Kelly,

I am not surprised you didn't know about pathway D or any other pathways, life is just too short

Keep your eye out on here, I will post a thread as soon as I have info.

My gut instinct is that a practical exam of some sort will be required, which will not be a problem for any UK tradespeople, I am sure.

In the meantime, just to reassure you, even if the new Pathway D is not something that works for your husband, there are a couple of other options, so if you do get stuck, feel free to PM me and I will do my best to help.

Hello Kelly.

There are strategies available for certain trade skills applications (including Roof Tilers) making use of a workplace assessment leading to the issue of what is called an AQF Certificate III (AQF = Australian Qualifications Framework), which in turn can facilitate a positive migration skills assessment from TRA under their Skill Pathway E if you also have at least 4 years of demonstrable relevant work experience.

Feel able to telephone our office in Southampton if you would like to discuss further: Go Matilda - Your Gateway to Australia - Contact and Feedback

Best regards.
