Default can anyone help?

dear all

I've been looking into moving the family to Australia, (Brisbane hopefully)and have been in contact with two migration agents as suggested to my last post. The thing is, what a week ago seemed really hopeful, is now looking unlikely and I'm doubting we will be allowed a visa to stay in Australia....I don't understand...We are a young family, both educated, no criminal convictions, clean driving license, with a high income...whats not to like?

Because my husband will continue his work outside of Australia and I'm a stay at home mum (at the moment) we don't seem to fall into a visa category because we aren't looking for jobs and we are retired....If I want to train to be a hairdresser then we have more of a chance - Its unbelievable...!

does anyone else have a similar situation that can give me some ideas..?

many thanks in advance

Hi Faye,

don't give up just yet!
I'm not really able to offer any real advise, but you sound so deflated!
Your husband works in the North Sea, right? That's a helluva long way from Brissie...... would he not consider a job in Oz? Even on a temporary basis it might be the decider.
I believe there are many mining/ drilling/ engineering companies out there; although he would have to work full time for the duration of a sponsorsed visa....
Have you checked on the DIAC website, or with Australia house? Don't mean to sound condescending, but sometimes people miss the obvious!

BTW, where would us girls be without a hairdresser? Which reminds me, i need a cut.
Chin Up Faye, you will find a way
Jane

hey Jane

thanks for your reply and advice. I guess I am a bit deflated. I'd naively thought it would be straight forward, oh well..! deep breath... I will check out the DIAC website and Australia house, (obvious to you but not to me..!) maybe then I will have some luck.

Nothing wrong with hairdressers either and lots of great ones in Liverpool ( I lived there myself for 4 years) but I know I would make a shocking one, so back to the drawing board.
Cheers again Jane and best wishes
Faye

Hi Faye,

I think that the issue is that Australia only want people who are adding to their country, through money, skills etc. If your husband worked for an Australian company then that would possibly be different.

Even when it comes to the medical checks there are checking for things that won't be a drain on the health system out here.

You can always talk to more agents. I had 2 agents say that we couldn't get in and the third one said that they could and they did.

Unfortunately there will always be some people who can't get in or others that stay in the points pool for years.

I am very grateful, and consider myself lucky, that we got in.

Good luck,
Karen

Hi faye,

Did the agents give you any options at all? I'm guessing that either your husband would have to get a job in Australia or you re-train to get a qualification (making sure the job is on the skills in demand list!), and work for a year in a job and then apply. I'm afraid the hairdresser scenario is right.

I wouldn't give up just yet though, like Karen we had 2 agents who told us we would'nt be able to get visas but we did.

You could PM/email the 2 agents who occasionally post on here (Alan Collett and Liana Allen). We used George Lombard Welcome to Austimmigration | George Lombard Consultancy Pty. Ltd. and he's excellent.

Please let us know how you get on.

Dolly

hi karen and dolly

thanks for your replies. We are a high income family so we would only be contributing to the economy and we are only early 30's with two young children so we are not in any health risk category that would drain a health system....I've spoken to George Lombard and Liana Allen...It was George who suggested the hairdresser sitch but then suggested we wait till the children are older. Haven't heard back from Liana since initial email. There was some concern over childcare whereas I had assumed I would put my child in state school. Shes only just turned 4. We've a baby as well so training for a job I don't even want seems quite a sacrifice.

Someone mentioned becoming residents of NZ then moving to Oz would be a way but this has other issues and I don't want to be moving the children around constantly.

I'll try another agent or two but if I am honest I am beginning to question whether I need the hassle..

I'll keep you updated ..
Faye

Hi Faye,

If you do manage to get visas for NZ you will have to wait 5 years before you can become a citizen, only then can you move over to Australia.

The only answer I can see is if your husband gets an Australian job. Is that not possible?

Dolly

If you think this is hassle you haven't seen anything yet

It took us 2 years to get visas to come to Australia and I'm sure you've read some of the other posts on here too.

Regards,
Karen

Blimey..! I'll stop whinging now then. It must be pretty nice there

My husband is a diver. He could work from Singapore but this still isn't Australia and would mean he was away for longer periods, 5 weeks is long enough...so its North Sea or nothing and it is where he wants to stay. He isn't trained in anything else.

I wanted to do a 2 yr course in brisbane which is why I chose that area but the academy say they don't sponsor students. They've said I need to have a visa sorted beforehand...

My sister and her family are moving to NZ next month, which is another reason we started looking into moving ourselves, so we could be nearer to them. I also have a cousin in Oz who is married to an Australian but they aren't really in a position to sponsor us..
I'll keep going, it might be a case of catching the right agent on the right day that makes a difference..

cheers
Faye

Y dont you apply for a student visa, in that case you can do the course and work as well.. and your husband can work full time while you work part time.
