Hi everybody,

We will make our initial entry by September to OZ. We will just visit Sydney for a month and will go back to our home country. Aside from the passports with the permanent resident visa in it, what are the necessary documents that we need to bring? I already read the pdf titled "Beginning a Life in Australia". Does the Australian government collect taxes even though you are still working outside Australia?

Thanks and regards,

Jus

Hi Jus,

It may depend on the visa type but when we validated our skilled independent visas all they did was look in the passport and stamp it as usual. I was disappointed since I thought there would be more to it than that.

I'm not an accountant but I think that you pay tax in the country where you are resident. So you only start paying tax in Australia if you are resident here and you will pay taxes on your worldwide income (so it doesn't matter where you are earning your money you will pay the tax in Oz).

Regards,
Karen

Hi Jus, It is best to get with you all the documents you have which you gave for the visa application. You never know when they ask for what. and it is always better to be safe than be sorry. They are just papers, no harm carrying them along.

I know exactly what you mean. In our case from inception to walking through passport control with visas in passports was about 3 years, and it was a very rocky road to get there. I was manically excited by the time we got off the plane and stood in the passport control queue, felt absolutely awesome. Got to our turn, chappie had a quick word (he was a Scot that moved over 20 years ago as it turned out so he'd been through what we had). He was as chatty as he could be considering the hundreds of people he still had to see and waved us on, but took a few minutes to welcome us to Australia - which was really nice.

We got through, stood on the other side and then just looked at each other. It was like, right what do we do now then? I didn't expect pomp and ceremony, pom pom wielding girls or a ticker tape parade - so we stood there, hugged each other and then went to find the hire car!!!!!

hee heeh eee.. this sounds so cute.. Me and shekhar (my husband) did the same when he heard about the acs, he called form work and said baby, guess what, atul mailed and we have cleared the acs, and it is positive.. we could not hug or kiss over the phone but yes, we could feel the excitement in each others voice. There are times when we get what we want so desperately, and when we do get it, we do nothing but have a big big heart pumping super fast that we feel will come out pumping even harder he he he, I am not making sense at all...and then we think, what next, since we put our 200 percent to achieve it. :P hehehehe
