Default 475 (provisional visa) vs 175/176 (permanent visa)

Dear all,

I have a cousin who is willing to sponsor me 475 visa (temporarily PR) and I am also exploring getting state sponsorship 176 (permanent visa). I am trying to compare the pro and cons of apoplying for either of the visa and hope to be able to seek help through this forum.

Getting a temp visa (475) means I will have to show proof that I have work for at least 2 years before getting a permanent PR but I am able to submit my application at the earliest time and join the queue for priority processing(occupation in SOL).

To apply for 176 visa means that I have to submit an application to state for sponsorship (victoria) and the time taken may be lengthly (range from 3-6 months, correct me if I am wrong). I am queit worry on what will happend during the waiting time before getting approval for state sponsorship as the changes to the migration processing has been too often.

We are also exploring what are the differences in terms of benefits for a 475 holder versus 176 holder. Could anyone help on the queries below if you happend to know.... all help are greatly appreciated!

1) Education - any diff in terms of the school fees for a 5 years old child
2) Education - any diff on terms of university fees should I wish to upgrade ourself(taking up a graduate diploma/Phd)
3) Benefits - child's benefits, etc?
4) any other things that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Hi Ling:

Answers are basically here:
Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 475)

A 475 is a temporary visa therefore you will not be eligible for benefits as PR visa holders are (175/176 would get those benefits).

So for the 4 questions you raised:
1. Full tuition paid (varies by state) - $8000+
2. Full fees as a foreign student
3. Not eligible for rebates or FTB or other Centrelink/Family Assistance benefits
4. It will be more expensive, your status is a temporary resident so you don't get access to most benefits. You'll still need private medical insurance unless a reciprocal agreements allows you access to Medicare.
