Default Car seats?

What is the law surrounding children and car seats in Australia? It's so strict here now, so was wondering if we'll need to run out and buy a car seat as soon as we land! Also, it there a height they need to reach before they can ride without a seat?

Thanks

Kareena

Hi Kareena,

I'm not sure if this is state dependent but here is a link to the rules in
South Australia - Seatbelts & Child Restraints - Transport SA.
I happen to know that Transport SA deal with anything relating to transport in SA but if you are moving to another state do a search through google to find the one for your state.

Rules have recently changed so that drivers are as responsible for adult passengers as they already are for children passengers.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Kareena

Depends on how old your children are. Its the law to have them in a child restraint until they are one. My 3 and half year old is in a boster seat and 1 year old in a car seat. They are thinking about changing the law though. Hope this helps.

If you go onto the ATSB website and type in the search box at the top right hand side of the screen "a simple guide to child restraints" you can download a pdf file on the car seat laws.
