Hello everybody so glad i found this website, its answered alot of our questions.
Let me introduce my gang, my name is Ed (27), my partner is Emma (27), my daughter Freya (4) and we also have one on the way.

We are going through the process of applying for a highly skills migrant visa, as I am a qualified Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Engineering. We have passed the paper assessment and are currently waiting for the date for the practical assessment. Has anyone taken this test or give me any idea of what to expect?

We are looking at relocating to either Adelaide, Brisbane or Melbourne - does anyone have any useful information on any of these areas?

We are keen to know the best areas for employment, affordable housing and schooling?

We would appreciate as much information as possible on any area - please help us!

Hi Ed,

Have you read through the "please read..." and "thinking of emigrating" posts towards the top of this forum? They have links to housing, school and job websites. There is also a "cost of living" post that has costs for most of the regions that you mention (for Adelaide see Mount Gambier unless anyone has added costs for Adelaide itself recently).

If you do a search through the posts on the forum you'll find discussions on those areas.

Melbourne is a major multicultural city, Adelaide is seen as a sleepy backwater and I can't help you with Brisbane since I've not been there yet. For housing costs Adelaide would probably be the cheapest but you also need to consider the weather and the lifestyle you want. There are weather links in the "Please read" post.

Hi Ed,
I just got back from Adelaide, and i loved it!
It is a little quieter than the other centres, but it is cheaper.
The city itself is very clean, wide open streets etc....
The weather is a bit more mediteranean.
Have you checked out any city tour books? We found quite a few in Menzies, and they are quite informative.
Also there are some seriously good websites on each of the places you mentioned.
