Moving to Sydney with a baby

Hi everyone, my husband is arranging a transfer with the company he works for and we'll hopefully be moving to Sydney by the end of 2008.

My main worry is that I'll be without a social network because I won't be going back to work for about another 6 months. How do I bust in to the Yummy Mummy's network in Sydney?

We're tossing up whether to live in the inner west or go for the full Aussie coastal action and rent at Clovelly or Coogee (Lee's office is in Pyrmont).

Any advice on where is best for a new family of 3 (baby Monty is 4 months old) and how to avoid become a stay-at-home desperate loner will be much appreciated!

When you work out where you live, get in touch with the local council...who will put you in touch with a maternal health nurse (for Monty's weigh-ins etc).
She will be able to help with putting you in touch with a few mothers groups.

Try your local library..they may also do a mother/baby reading/play session.

The council will also help with playgroups in your area.
You may also find that local churches run playgroups as well (you dont need to go to church/or be religious to go)
..they will offer things as painting/craft etc

Also try + get to know your neighbours/people in the street...you may just find another mum whom you can go walking with etc

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry I can't help with recommendations on Sydney as I live in Victoria.

I have found a website that lists all the NSW councils. The relevant council website should give details of mother's and toddler groups (which is always a good start).

There's also a Mum's Club (but you've got to register to be able to find groups etc)

Mums Club - Get in Touch, Stay in Touch

There are members here that live in/around Sydney...I'm sure they'll be able to give you some advice.
