Default Any idea about custom duties..??

Hi All,

As I am in final stage of my packing - I see lots of stuffs required to ship as all can not be moved with us in bags.

I have - Utensils, Food items, Clothes and Electronics items to choose for shipment.

I heard that Utensils, Food items and Electronics items may apply custom duties if it will be send through shipment but same wouldnt have any duties if one is bringing with him while making first move!!

Any idea - suggestion is most welcome.. (I do have a little time to reshuffle my packing )

Thanks,
Rushi

Food items should be clearly labelled with ingredients listed, otherwise be prepared to be interrogated about it at Customs.

Electronics, if new looking (no dust) then make sure you can prove how much it cost. Otherwise you may get questioned.

Utensils: Metal OK, Wood: make sure you declare it and show it.

Thanks,
Rushi

Try not to carry much in food items. If at all, make sure it is packed (original packing) and as amaslam suggested, ingredients to be clearly listed.

Carry just a few utensils with you in baggae, send the rest by sea/air or however you plan to send it. There are a few things you must carry like a mini tool kit, first aid kit, pressure cooker (with extra whistles and rubbers), sewing kit, multi plug extension cord with extra fuse plugs. there is a list in teh forum that was posted a while back, search through.

Make sure you list everything in the baggage, and cartons that you plan to send by sea/air. Make sure your shoes are clean, no dust. Basically everything to be clean.

As for electronics, as long as it is one yr old, you should not face a problem but carry their bills if you can or proof that it is more than a year old.

Cheers
Anj

Thanks Anj - My wife has done some excellent work by picking up most things; still I have share your reply with her - may be she can add some more shopping bills in last days!!! I am more worried about my electronics and looking to bring it myself as i am afraid if I will send it by Air / Ship - they may apply heavy duties or can get broken..

Thanks,
Rushi
