Red face A recognition trip is necessary?

Hey all...

Well, i'm glad because my visa process is going ok. It's getting into the Migration part... my agent says this is the last part. So I hope to receive good news about it.

I just want to ask if someone really thinks whether it's necessary to do an exploration trip before. I have this doubt because i can not afford it. Is it true I have some savings, but I want to hold them in case the visa is granted.

I would like to hear some experiences...

thx in advanceˇˇˇ

Hi,

We did a reccie trip a couple of years ago. We knew which State we wanted to move to, but not the area so we travelled around. It was good for our boys to be able to 'see' the country we were eventually going to move them halfway around the world to live.

I'd say the majority of people don't do reccie trips. Emigrating isn't cheap!!!

If I were you, keep your savings. Do you have an area in mind that you want to move to yet?

Dolly

Hi,

I moved from the UK to New Zealand without ever having been here. I researched the best place where I was most likely to get a job for my IT skill set which was Wellington. After that it came down to being in the best area for primary schools and the fact that we liked the feel of the suburb we picked.

We are now in the process of moving again to Brisbane, although I have lived and worked in Australia (17 years ago) I have never been to Brisbane. My previous experience of Australia was extremely rural (banana picking and a sheep station at shearing time) - so different and unable to compare from the UK but I loved the opportunities I was given. I still get mileage out of stories from back then.

We haven't done a reccie trip for either move just asked questions and read the forums and researched through the web as best we could. I don't have any regrets.

Pam

Hi,

I'm too much of a control freak to move anywhere without having been there first. We travelled around a few states until we found where we wanted to settle since we didn't need to worry about jobs.

Regards,
Karen

Thanks all for answering. According to the research i've done, Melb and Sydney are the options to move due to my profession (Telecom Engineer). I'm a single guy, so a small place where to live will be ok at first.

I'm trying to do that reccie trip, but the flight it's only about 2000 USD plus meals, hotel and so on...

well, who says a move like this would be easy...

cheers¡¡¡
