Default Do I have to use a AUS bank account?

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for your help

Will AUS employers direct deposit salaries into US bank accounts (and handle the currency exchange) or do i have to have an Australian account and do it myself?

I currently have various payments that i make electronically (online) to US lenders and will likely have to continue making these payments while living abroad. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi:

No they won't, get an AU account and they'll deposit there.

Once you have AU account you can generate the scheduled payments to your US account (and incur all the fees for it). You should also consider a multi-currency account (a few banks do that) so you can convert a large sum and then transfer that way as well (without converting at point of transfer).

Try to avoid banks' transfers because they cost an arm and a leg. Look for peripheral money transfers e.g. Western Union, among others.
