i was under the impression it was 7 anyways.. each state though has different requirement

You mean to say that it's been there in NSW SMP earlier before 1st July?

So, I knew that it was 6, for example, if you see WA SOL then you will find that it's 6

Would appreciate, if you could be in touch and bring some more information on this.

For Tasmania, IELTS requirement is also 7 band

I believe they changed the language requirement on the 1st of April 2010 revision. They made the language restriction more. They earlier allowed your spouse to come into the country on the basis they pay addition $2500 as language course fees and study English in Australia but now it has also been removed.

So Aussi government is tightening the screws on language proficiency.
