Default Occupational Therapist- Need Help with which Visa i get, can anyone advise me?!

Hi everyone
Ive applied for my OT registration for OZ so ive dont the 1st step....

Im 23 and been working for a year here in the UK, want to move to SYDNEY basically ASAP but just dont know how to go about getting a visa and which one to get really.....

I want to get a skilled Migrant visa so i can stay over there for as long as i want but i dont understand if i should get the visa first or try and get a job first which will help me with the visa process....

does anyone know of any good job agencies that can help me find a job specifically in sydney....? or just any info or advice would be really helpful, i want to move there as soon as possible and just scared il go for the wrong visa and make a huge mistake!

Thanks
Rosiex

Hi Rosie,

Welcome to the forum.

If you check out the sticky posts at the top of this forum you'll see 2 posts the "Please read...." and "Thinking of emigrating?" those are good places to start.
The "Please read" post also has the points test if you are thinking about going for a skilled independent visa. With that visa you have more flexibility but in some ways less security since people tend to come here without a job and get one once they are here. If you are not on the skills in demand list (see the "Please read" post) then it can take up to 2 years to get through the skilled independent visa, which is the route we used.

Have a look through the posts and let us know if you have any questions - I'm sure you'll have loads just like the rest of us

There are 2 agents who are sometimes on the forums - Alan Collett and Liana Allan. First consultations are usually free.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Rosie

I am an OT and have just began the whole process, a workmate of mine who is further along the process than me is also a forum member "crazylady", we are both applying to queensland health (crazy has just been offered a position) we have both found out it is a whole lot easier to get offered a job first and then apply for a visa.

We are both going for permenant resident visas, they take longer than temp ones but give you better opportunties and rights whilst in OZ. OTs are in hot demand in oz, have you checked ot journal and ot news? they have been advertsing there for months also surf the net especially on particular states health sites as they often have a work for us section etc (E.G QUEENSLAND HEALTH).

Ask us anything and i hope we can all help each other (you never know we could all be working together one day lol).

DARREN
