Dear expatforum community,

I work as a chef and is wondering on what you think if the SOL will include chefs/cooks by 2012-2013? Are chefs still in demand in Australia?

I personally doubt it. Chefs and Hairdressers were the occupations getting abused the most in the Immigration system (to get quick PR visas) so I don't think they'll come back on any skills list soon.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.

Here's the new SOL. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...ccupations.pdf

I'm afraid Chef/Cook have been taken off the list, no-one can predict what will happen in the future but I'd say for the foreseeable future those jobs will remain off the list.

Dolly

Chef is a skilled trade. Australia only needs people to do **** jobs that no one in the country will do.

That is an incredibly biased statement and completely untrue in my opinion. What about all the IT specialists on this very forum? !

Have you tried the visa wizard to see if any other visa fit you? There is a link in the 'PLEASE READ....' sticky post. That wizard has the most common visas otherwise consult with a migration agent. The first consultation is usually free and they will usually tell you whether you have a chance of getting in or not.

Regards,
Karen
