Default Driving when going back to uk

Hello everyone

I need a really quick reply.

I moved to Australia from the UK 9 months ago.

I have had to urgently come back to UK for a funeral. I still have my UK licence but obviously it has a UK address which is longer my address.

I have not yet got an Australian licence.

So I am a UK citizen in the UK with a UK licence but am resident in Australia.

Can I get car insurance, whether temporary or added to another persons policy or even car hire! I have tried my sisters insurer for her car 'The AA' and they said they can't insure me.

HELP!

Why not get an AU license? I think it's just paperwork (no road test) for UK license holders. Look at the licensing agency for the State you live in (i.e. RTA, VicRoads, etc.). Once you have an AU License and AU address then there should be problem getting AU insurance.

Thanks for your reply but I am already here in the UK, I had to fly urgently because my brother died. I honestly thought I wouldn't have a problem driving!

I find the whole residency thing confusing! I cannot be classed as an Australian resident as I am a temporary visa holder and yet I am not classed as a UK resident as I do not have a permanent address here!

What a pain in the arse, I feel like an illegal immigrant!
