Default Best Australian Cars?

Hi Everyone,

I'm moving to Sydney in a couple weeks and plan on buying a car asap. I'm wondering which models have the best reputation in Australia for reliability and affordability.

What I have in mind is something with 4WD, that I can put a rack to drive my kayak here and there. But I don't want some giant tank either. Just something that can handle light off-road conditions. Maybe in the neighborhood of $25,000 to $30,000? If that's realistic for a new car.

As you can probably tell, I don't know much about cars in general, so any advice on what to negotiate for in the purchase would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
ChiefEagle

If you are talking American Dollars then yes.... for that money Australian you would get a 2-3 year old 4x4. I would stick to Australia makes....(or Japanese)

Ford Territory
Holden Captiva
Mazda CX7

Those are good entry level cars around your price-point.

Thanks Halo,

I'll check into all these models, but some of them look a bit too SUV than I had in mind.

If anybody has any other models in mind, please let me know.

Thanks

I think Rav 4s and that Kia SUV are affordable. Also remember that Australia cars hold their value a lot more so thats why the cost is so high.

Agree with Toyota RAV 4. Subaru Forester would also be a choice.
