Is the IELTS required for an American citizen applying for Australian visa 175 (permanent residency)?

Hi,

IELTS is only required if your native language is not English. It's to prove that the applicant is proficient in English.

Thanks Dolly! We will be travelling out of the country for a couple of months (husband's work). Do you know if it is required that we take the IELTS in the US - or can we take the test from anywhere in the world?

Hi there,

Here's the website with the areas in which you can take the test.

IELTS

So, are you thinking of doing the test whilst you're out of the country for a couple of months?

I would think that it wouldn't matter in which country you did the test, but I'm not 100% sure. Why not contact IELTS and ask them? (just to be sure).

Hi guys, another wee point to make is that the IELTS can give you an extra 10 points onto your application - that's why so many English speakers are taking the IELTS test.

It totally baffled my brain when i discovered so many english speakers were taking the test so i looked into it and found out why.

Hi,

You can write the IELTS test in any country, we're from SA and we wrote our one in Botswana. The problem you might have is with the oral exam (this happens 7 days before or after the test so you need to make sure that you'll be in that country to do that. The IELTS test can give you up to 25 points (if you get 7 for every module you get 25 points). My husband is english and he also wrote the test therefore he gets 25 points to add to the points test!!!
