Default Spiders and lovely things that go bump in the night

Hi there,

I'm half way through awaiting our 175 Skilled Visa at the moment. One thing we're trying to decide on is which city is would be better.

For my job as an I.T consultant Melbourne seems to have the most, then Sydney then Brisbane then Perth.

But we have heard Perth does have less Spiders and things ? Is this true?

Mind you when I was over in Australia in 2000 I went all over and hardly saw anything, except a king brown snake in Alice Springs.

Alistair.

Hi Alistair,

Spiders have been spoken about on another thread, but I don't think we really talked about their location.

I have some friends in Melbourne and I think that we've seen more spiders (huntsmen) here than they have. Although to put that into perspective we've only seen 2 in 9 months, and my husband was landscaping the garden and pruning trees at the time.

Perth is much hotter than Melbourne so unless you like the heat Perth may not be the place to go.

Regards,
Karen

Default spiders

Hi,

Just my wife hates them!! wondering sometimes if I'm doing the right thing and leaving the UK next year.

So you think Melbourne is ok for Spiders rather than Perth??

People have always said Perth has a lot less insects.

Although as an I.T consultant it looking more like the best jobs are in Melbourne not Perth. And after all its money is the important bit

Alistair.

Hi there Alistair,

Bugs are bugs. You will get them all over the country. I know that you'll get more snakes in Perth than you would in Melbourne, but spiders are probably about the same. I am THE worst arachnophobe and it filled me with dread at the thought of the large huntsman spiders...but as was told to me before I moved over, you just have to get on with it. We have quite a few daddy longleg spiders (we're in Melbourne by the way) and I've only seen a few huntsmen (here a link to a thread I did earlier about my first encounter My first encounter of the eight legged kind ).

With regard to job prospects in the IT industry, you'll be much better off trying Melbourne...we were originally thinking of moving to Perth but found work here a bit easier.

Dolly

Hi,

Some good IT recruitment agencies in Melbourne we used were Greythorn and Hudsons. My husband secured his job through Gemteq.

Tell your wife she'll be fine...if I can handle the spiders here, anyone can!
