Default Cost of daycare / childcare

Hi,

We will be moving to Queensland next month on my husband's student visa and I'm allowed to work full time. Can anyone let me know the cost of child care over there for my 2 year old. I've sent out a couple of emails but I've realised one thing, the aussies do not reply to emails ! (no offence) and if they do it is a week later.

Even emails to real estate agents and rentals do not get replied. I'm assuming that emailing is not popular. Pls tell me I'm wrong.

Hope to hear from someone.

Regards,
Mimi

Hi Mimi,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you searched through the threads (search button is 3rd from right in row with black background) since I think this has been asked and answered before, although I can't remember if it was specific to Queensland).

I don't have kids and I'm not in Queensland so I can't help you....

Regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,

Thanks for the quick response. I have actually been following this forum for a couple of days now and have picked up lots of tips and information. Thanks to all for that.

I've did do a search through the threads but could not find one related to Queensland. Actually there are not that many related to childcare. I'm guessing that it would be about AUD 50 a day. Any information will be appreciated.

Regards,
Mimi

Hi Mimi,

I just had a look too at previous posts and the answer I found was that it depends on the establishment and where you are.

I found loads of websites in google but none of them stated prices. If no-one replies to your post I suggest you find some websites and give them a call to find out their prices.

Regards,
Karen

HI Mimi,

I am an aussie living in the states and moving back to Sydney later this year - Childcare is ridiculously expensive in australia! in sydney where I want to live it is between $70 and $100 a day! I am paying in Miami $550USD a month! And the reason they wont email you back is there is waiting lists and what I have been told is you have to literally keep dropping in on the day cares to check on the wait lists before you can get it. One day care in sydney told me - call me around this time and keep calling me every week because if you are calling me constantly you will get the place even if you are on the bottom of the list because you are fresh in my mind when the space comes up. Also with the real estate agents they wont call you either because rental properties are in demand and there is a lot of people trying to get the places you have to be calling them constantly as well! good luck....I am in the same boat - I have a 2 1/2 yo and I will proabably be paying more in daycare a week than in rent!

Jacque

Hi Jacque,

Thanks for the info. Did not realise childcare in Sydney is so expensive! I think it is cheaper where I'm going. Sometimes I wonder why I bother going back to work, most of it would go to daycare anyway.. lol. Anyway, I busy preparing for the move, another 3 1/2 weeks to go before we fly, will sort it out when we're there.

Cheers

You can also apply for childcare benefits...just check on centerlink website .

Fees will vary from place to place, and hours used.

Also check with the local council of the area you are moving to and see if there are any home daycare providers (where your child goes to a carers house, usually along with a handful of other children)

There are also churches, that run day care centres.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi, I pay $50 a day for day care for (including food) i think thats average! you may also get help from centrelink towards payments) the thing we didnt realise about rentals here is the demand for them is huge - what we found happens is you see a house your interested in and view it on the allocated time (usually with several other couples if its a high demand area/size) and then its a first come first serve thing - we secured ours by turning up to the veiwing with all the paperwork in our hands to hand in there and then, that may be why your not ghetting any responce! best of luck

As we will be on a student visa, I'm not sure if we are entitled to childcare benefits. I assumed that it was for for permanent residents. I'm going to check out the centrelink site. Thanks to all for the replies.

Regards,
Mimi
