New Here, Please help Info Needed ?!

Hi all,

Me and my partner ( full qualified electrian ) have been talking & r thinking of making the move over to OZ we have a son who is only just 5months old, We understand that it is a long process. :

Can any1 advise what sort of wage my partner would be on ? He is also a P/T fireman over here & wud like to maybe carry on doing this over in OZ ??confused:

What r the 1st vital steps we need to take to make the move ?
Is it best to get a agent ??! How much ££ shud we have behind us ?

Again im sorry for all th Q but its such a minefield out there, We just are unsure where to start .

Hi Lisa,

Start off by looking a Dolly's new thread "Thinking of emigrating..." since that has the first steps to go through to make sure you can get in.

Dolly and I (the moderators) always recommend qualified agents since it's their job to know how to get you in the best way. It can be expensive but it's definitely worth it to get it right first time.

The "Please read..." post has job websites on it so you'll get an idea of the wages for your partner.

Money depends on where you are moving to and what you feel secure with. I remember watching those programs in the UK where people come over to Oz with hardly any money and still made a go of it. Personally I couldn't do that.

Dolly also has some excellent posts on what to do before and after you move out here.

we used an agent and it cost us about £4000 i think (thats fee's to them and to Oz inclusive) there are agents out there that wont charge you if they cant get you in! i used thinkingaustralia who i was pleased with! from submitting the first piece of paper work to getting the offical YES it took about 9 months! i dont know what the wage is for your hubby's trade but here they have what is called an award wage for each job so every job has a different award wage - you could try searching this on the interent for the state you wish to live! if you come on perminant residency visa you can claim family credit / child care help type benefit straight away (provided you qualify)
