Default mechanic looking to OZ

Has anyone got any experience of the TRA.
We are in the very 1st stages of looking into going to Oz and am getting worried about TRA tests and getting trade certificates enabling hubby to work once we are there. Please help me as we dont want to fail at the first stump.
thanks for reading

Hi Laura,

Have you read through the other posts on the forum? I know that there were some people going through the TRA process but I can't remember if they were mechanics.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Laura,

I've got a brief knowledge on the TRA skills assessment. What exactly do you need to know?

All of it!!!!
We have 3 small children and am worried that because we currently live in Spain therefor wont be eligable to take the tests at accrington, we get all the way to Oz do the tests and fail. Hubby has bad dyslexia but is an Ace mechanic, if we fail (any writen test )then have to come all the way home? would be gr8 to talk to someone who has been trought it, especially a mechanic.
thanks for replys
Laura

Hi Laura,

Why can't you do them in Accrington? Couldn't you "move" back to the UK to be with family so the test could be taken there? I don't know the rules so that idea may not work.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Laura,

I think Karen is right...why can't you travel from Spain to Accrington to do your tests (makes more sense than travelling to Australia!).

I may be wrong, but I don't think your husband would fail a skills assessment due to his dyslexia.

Have you checked out the TRA website?

workplace.gov.au - For individuals

It gives loads of info on what to do.

When we looked into doing our TRA, we didn't need to do a written test...are you sure you don't mean doing VETASSES as your skills assessment?

VETASSESS - Vocational Education Training and Assessment Services

Default tra

thanks for all your responses. To do the test in accrington you have to prove you reside in the uk, if we went back to do the test surley then we wouldnt match all the criteria on the skill list regarding recent work experience.
i will go back to the TRA web site and see if i can gather more info there. tried yesterday and my computer decided it wasnt going to download the pages correctly adobe or pdf stuff. AAGGGHHHH
i take it the fight starts here to remain sain!!!
thanks again
Laura
