Default Schools and suburbs - Melbourne

Before committing to rent, make sure to check with the school that the house you're interested in meets the school's zoning requirements. Some schools are very strict in this respect.

Here are some particularly useful websites when looking for/comparing schools:

Find a school | ACARA
You can compare different schools. Schools are rated based on the school's performance in English (reading, grammar, spelling and writing) and numeracy . Covers all private and govt. schools.

VRQA State Register - Search
Provides a school's performance summary.

Some of suburbs that we considered because of the good schools they had were:

Glen Waverley - very popular with Indian and Sri Lankan expats, a bit far from the CBD but great otherwise. We didn't choose this as commuting would have been a problem for my oldest daughter whose school is on Albert Park
3 bed houses range from $350 p/w upwards.

Hawthorn East
Kew

2 bedroom Apartment rents from $ 350 p/w
3 bedroom apartments/townhouses from $500 pw

North Balwyn
Excellent primary and high school located next to each other

Malvern

Check out Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au - about 90% of the rentals are listed here.
