Hi Ruth & Bazz,

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing you have to establish to be able to apply for a visa is:

1. Age (you cannot be over 45 by lodgement date of your visa application)
2. Qualifications/work experience
3. Is your occupation on the SOL list

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the forum page "Please read....". It has links to the DIAC website where you'll find descriptions of the various visas and their requirements. Have a good read through.

Come back with any questions that you may have (and I'm sure you will have loads ).

Dolly

hi

i have looked on the please read thread and read about the visas and it seems to me the best one for my family is a skilled independent,as his trade is on the list of wanted trades(i cant remember what the list is called sorry)

where do i go from here?

also i looked on the medical assessments and my partner although he can work with his trade has arthritis. do you think this would stop us going?

thank you Ruth

Hi Ruth,

Did you try the points test too? There is a points test for the skilled independent visa (the link is in the "Please Read..." post.

The medicals are usually for illnesses that will be a drain on the system, either through tests or medication. I doubt that arthritis would fall under that category.

Have you had a consultation with a migration agent? The first one is usually free. Or if you are based in the UK there are usually a few expos going on where you can get information.

Regards,
Karen

Hi there Ruth,

I think you should contact a migration agent and ask their opinion.

I'd phone at least 3 agents to get their advice and see how much their fees are (it will vary), and what they will do for their money.

I don't think your husband's medical should be too much of a problem. The panel doctors would be concerned with more serious conditions like TB or aids.

Hi Ruth,

There are 2 agents who post on here, Alan Collet and Liana Allen. Also, George Lombard is extremely good, we used him and he was fantastic ( Welcome to Austimmigration | George Lombard Consultancy Pty. Ltd. ).

Hi Ruth,

I think the expo at Sandown should be on towards the end of the year, and there's also one at Earls court in London around October time. I'll have a look and see if I can find out some info but it may be too early yet.

Which agents did you send the emails to? Did you try the agents on this forum?

The agent that we used (Emigration group) is having a seminar on May 11th if you are near Leeds in the UK. More details can be found at Welcome to The Emigration Group Website - A complete migration service for New Zealand and Australia.

Karen
