Irish moving downunder

Hi,

We are two lads from Dublin who left Ireland in Febuary and emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. Its been a rollercoaster so far but we have loved it. I know from speaking to family and friends back home that many Irish are thinking of making a permenant move downunder.

I am here if anyone needs to know the ins and outs of moving here and the reality that awaits you.

I know there'll be a few people with questions they'd like to ask - I know what it was like being in the UK, deciding on emigrating to Australia, and having countless questions about simply everything. Any contributions from the Australian side of the world will be much appreciated.

So, you've not been here too long...how are you settling in? Do you have family in Australia?

Hi Dolly,

We arrived 18th January 2008. It was snowing in Dublin when we left. Within two weeks we had bought a car, a house and had jobs lined up. Its all been easy really but we had been planning the move for about 8 years. My advice to people thinking of making the move is if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Having the PR visas makes life a lot easier.

Out of a family of 5 kids, 3 of us live here now and i have to be honest, i have no intention of moving back to Ireland. Maybe in a few years i'll feel different about it.

I agree totally with you re getting a PR visa. Also, you can NEVER do enough research....
