Default Tax File Numbers between States?

Hi, time is drawing closer, we hope to be in Oz for August, house is going through and getting very excited. A quick question, we are planning to go to SA Adelaide initially, and know we must get our Tax File number, so we can start work but after say six months working we decide to move to Brisbane, do we keep the same Tax numbers or do we have to get new ones if we move state?

Your tax file numbers stay with you forever.
Even though we are out of the country (oz) at the moment, we still use the same number.

Hi Chrissygirl,

Sgilli3 is correct. Think of Tax File Numbers like the tax reference number in the UK. They stay with you and are across all States. As far as I'm aware all identification is Federal so works across all States.

Regards,
Karen
