I just want to find out if there is anyone stuck in our boat?!

We lodged our PR visa application last year march (2009). We are stuck and waiting and have been told that we will probably not even get a visa now! Apparently DIAC are refunding many applications??? Has anyone been refunded or know what is happening and on what grounds they are refusing visas? We have been told by our agent to find a company sponsor, which can be easier said than done! My partner is a lift engineer, there seem to be a few jobs about but where do we start?

PLEASE can someone set me straight and advise!! I am begining to wish we had not applied as i hate being in Limbo, i cant see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Hope to hear from someone soon!

Hi Sarah,

There were big changes at the start Feb - if you check out the links in the 'PLEASE READ...' sticky post that will point you to some of the threads on here and on the DIAC website itself.

MODL was revoked (for most visas) and the decision was taken by the Aus government that some visas would be refund no matter where they had got to in the processing. This was to make sure that people coming in were the correct skills.

I'm assuming from what you've said that you've got caught up in this.

Regards,
Karen

The Cap & Cease provision that was proposed was only going to affect applications that were filed before Sept 2007. Sarah mentioned she filed her application in 2009, so she should be safe from this for now.

The big question for Sarah is whether or not she has a 175 or 176 visa, which will determine how processing of her application may or may not change when the new SMP's are introduced mid-year.

Hi, thanks for your reply. We have gone for a 175 visa. Do you have in info on how we may be affected, i am starting to think our agent has given up on us!

I lodged my 175 visa application last March. I didnt use an agent. Havent heard any news good or bad. I heard it may take til 2012 til we get approved so I decided to take up a 2 yr contract in the Caribbean until then (Accountant) - may as well improve my CV while waiting, hopefully get to Oz at some stage!
