Post Wanting New Life In Perth

hi all, we are a uk family living in the north of england, fed up of the climate, lack of employment opportunities, the overcrowded country, and the low wage economy that this government is trying to create. My wife and i are looking for a better and more rewarding future for our children currently 13 and 8 years of age.We are both prepared to work hard as we always have through life.We are not expecting to be rich, just wish to have a better and more rewarding life style, i am an apprentice trained electrician, i completed my apprenticeship in 1984, i have worked for various companies as an electrician for many years. My problem: my most recent employment although it included electrical work was not solely electrician, it was a multi skilled process technician for delphi electronics in liverpool , uk ,for the past 12 years. Recent redundancey has occured and i am now trying to start a business sole trading in property repairs and maintenance. We have contacted several visa beurea's concerning emigration, where we are being advised my previous employment had to be solely as an electrician to be able to apply for a skilled 175 visa. Our hopeful destination is Perth,
We are now 43 years of age and time is running out to achieve a visa, can anybody advise if there is another option, or visa type we can apply for to assist emmigration. To date i am still utilising my skills in many various jobs i am doing i.e kitchen fitting, bathrooms, but as you can appreciate electrician is not my sole employment.Any advice offered will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance GARY AND JOYCE.

Hi Gary & Joyce,

I've moved your post to the Aussie forum since it will get more response.

If you check out the first 2 links in "Please read....." sticky post (in the Aussie forum) that will take you through to the visa options.

You mentioned your profession Gary - what about Joyce? Is there anything she does that you can use as first applicant?

We were turned down by 2 agents before we found one that got us in and I'm not the only one who has that story!

Regards,
Karen

thanks for replying, well joyce i consider has the greater qualifiction but unfortunately it is not in demand, joyce has aat first year certificate. She is currently employed as an accounts assistant, unfortunately her education is going to waste here in uk, and even more so, she has not enough time to complete the full aat to accountant level.

Hi Gary,

I'm not an expert on the emigration process but i think that if you're skills are not on the Skilled Occupation List, I don't think you're going to have much luck. I'm pretty sure even a State Sponsored Visa asks for jobs on the SOL list.

On saying that, never give up hope. Why don't you ask the two agents who post on here for their opinion. We were told by 2 separate migration agents that we wouldn't be successful but we got our visas last year.

As you've pointed out, age may be against you timewise, so I'd be pretty quick on getting the answers you're after.

Good luck....any more questions or advice, just ask away.

Dolly
