Default Prospective marriage visa as an elder woman

Hello expats,
I am new here and hope for some help. I am 56 years, German, still living in Germany and want to get married to my Australian boyfriend, living in AUS. 6 weeks ago I sent my application (subclass 300) to the Australian Embassy in Berlin. The only reaction until today was that they debited the fee from my credit card.
I would be verry happy to get to know expats from Germany who did the same step.

My main question at the moment is, to find an international private health insurance for a person of my age because I will not be intitled for help from Medicare the first two years.
There seem to be not many companies who offer payable contracts.
How did you manage that problem? Which experience do you have with international companies or did you take an Australian private health insurance?

Who could help me?

kind regards
Alusru

You would be eligible for Medicare if you have a PR visa upon arrival (it is not subject to a 2 yr waiting period). You can also take on private insurance in AU and the age should not be a barrier to getting it.

Hi Amaslam,
thank you very much for the reply. The prospective marriage visa will be valid only for nine months. Then I have to apply for another kind of visa and I read that I have to be two years in Australia before I can apply for a PR. So I will need a private health insurance for those first two years. I checked some offers from international, German and some Australian insurers. I spent many hours and sleepless nights to try to compare these. FRUSTRATING !!The really important tiny things are hidden among the 20 to 50 pages of each condition of contract.
The age is not a barrier, but all the exclusions because of pre-existing ailments and waiting periods. As older as I am as higher are the premiums.
So I will go on looking for a wonder to find the right one.

Regards
Alusru
