Default getting work before or after arrival

Hi, we have our house under offer, and visas in hand, my husband Nick)will be looking for work as a project manager or site manager in construction, looking around, Brisbane seems to be in most need of his skills. Is it best to go through recruitment agencies before we arrive or wait until we get there and do it face to face, hes also thinking about coming over for a week trip and doing a load of interviews then. Has anybody got any advice or a site manager job for him Ha Ha !!!!!!

Hi there,

We had our visas, got our validation trip booked, applied for a couple of jobs on Seek.com.au. Had a phone call the next morning from one of the agencies and the rest, as they say, is history!

Now that you've got PR you'll be considered for jobs. It can't hurt applying for some whilst you're still in the UK. But what you've got to consider is that if you do apply and are lucky enough to be offered a job, that you are in a position to actually leave the UK. There's no point in applying if you're not looking to move over until later in the year.

Hi,

Husband had a telephone interview and then a week later a video-conference interview (Singapore/Melbourne/UK). He was offered the job at that interview. We were very lucky.

Hi Chrissygirl,

I think that most people get jobs once they get here (unless they were sponsored) so you need to figure that your partner may not get a job immediately (although being in construction it may not take him that long).

Regards,
Karen
