Unhappy I'm Really Lost!

So here goes nothing. I'm 25, I live in the US. Single, No kids, and Healthy. I am in love with the idea of moving to Australia. The trouble is I don't really know where to start or how to get the ball rolling. I read the Please Read Sticky at the top of the page that is directed at everybody like me. It just seems overwhelming. So anyways I checked the immigration website and I meet the requirements for a skilled migration visa I believe but I don't know how to progress any further since the website kind of dead-ended me when I completed the questionnaire. I really want to just pack my stuff and head on over and figure it out when I get there. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I looked through 10+ pages here and other various other places on the internet and it seems that I can only ever find stories and problems from the British expats. Well thanks in advance and hopefully somebody will give me some advice. tony.

Like most territories, Oz requires you to pretty much get your paper work all lined up and completed before you embark on your journey down under.

You can start the process by surfing along to Applications & Forms - Visas & Immigration

Hi there Tony,

I'm afraid I have to agree with Rachel, it's not as simple as just picking up sticks, getting to Australia and then getting yourself sorted out. From actually starting the process (including preparing for the skills assessment) it took us 15 months. You will need a visa otherwise they won't let you in the country!!

Sorry, but most of your answers will be in the sticky at the top of the page as to how to apply. I know it seems overwhelming, but go back and look at the DIAC website again...and again if need be.

Have you thought about ringing an agent to get some advice? They shouldn't charge for the initial consultation and it should be without obligation. Personally, I wouldn't start such an important thing without profesional advice to get me started.

Any questions, just ask away.

Dolly

What industry are you in?

I live on the sunshine coast, queensland (which is 1 hour north of brisbane - the capital city of queensland.)

It is expensive to live on the sunshine coast as housing affordability is high and income is not equal to costs.

You can live in sydney or melbourne where wages are higher and where most people come to holiday at the sunshine coast or the gold coast, but who wants to live in the city, went you can live 15 mins from the beach.
cheers k
