Default Visas...would they even want me there?

I will finish my bachelors in business admin next spring here in the US. Would it be possible for me to fly there and obtain a visa and seek entry level positions? It looks like they only give visas to professionals that they are in dire need of...Im interested in Cairns and Melbourne. Thanks anyone for your help.

Is it true that rental returns on homes there are 5%? Why would a landlord bother?

Hi Am87,

Welcome to the forum.

Have you checked out the visa options on the governments website? There is a link in the "PLEASE READ...' post towards the top of the forum. There are other visa options available depending on your age, experience etc.

Rental returns vary dramatically from one place to another, and a lot of investors in Australia are more interested in reducing their tax bill more than anything else. Investing for positive cash flow is still a fairly new here so most investors are interested in equity growth and that has been incredible in some parts here. And yes I am a property investor here and in the UK.

Regards,
Karen

Thanks for pointing me to that. It seems that the only one I'd be eligible for is the employer sponsored visa as I am not an engineer or nurse. I hope I'm reading it correctly.

Hi there,

If you're not too sure, then give a migration agent a call just to put you in the right direction.

Quite a bit of difference between Cairns and Melbourne! If you really like the hot climate then Cairns is for you. If you like having the 4 seasons then it's Melbourne. I think out of all the decisions made on the visa trail, finding the right place to settle is probably one of the hardest!

Good luck

Dolly

Hi there
If you have completed a bachelors degree in the USA then you would be eligible for a 457 (work permit) visa. All you need to do is get a skilled job offer from an Australian business which pays you at least $41,850 + superannuation per annum. Good luck with your job search.

Thank you both. Both places seem great. Is Melbourne a lot better for people starting out as far as work?

I suppose that with the minimum pay at $41,000 that I should really work entry level in the United States first in my field before going there expecting that much.

Is human resources benefits management even a job there? I'm assuming they are needed there because Australia does not have socialized medicine as with Canada.

The best thing to do is to have a look at a few Australian job sites. Some specialise in finding work for overseas nationals with companies willing to sponsor them. One such site is Reverse Jobs: Home
Perhaps you can have a look at the employment market first and then see the response you get and work out your next move from there. There is no hard and fast rule.

Hi Liana, I've been to the website but I'm not able to find the correct link that points me to OZ companies which specialise in finding work for overseas nationals with companies willing to sponsor them. Could you possibly direct me further for that website?

Thanks so much!
