Talking A medical question

Hi All

Is there any one who can help with the following. I am thinking about moving to australia but i was diagnosed with cancer in the year 2000 and again in 2002. I have been cancer free for more than five years and i am not required to visit the hospital for check ups.

Am i waisting my time making an application?

Regards

Mick J

Hi Mick,

You will really need to get professional advice on this but from what I've read, there's not formal period of waiting from 'getting the all clear'. It is all dependent upon each individual's case.

Personally, I don't think you'll be wasting your time applying for a visa at all, but as I said, get professional advice.

Good luck!

Dolly

PS BTW which visa were you thinking of applying for?

Hi Mick,

I'm an IT professional (RPG analyst programmer JDE World for the details ) but my problem with getting in was that I didn't have a degree. I think I could have got in going through RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) but since I had been contracting for 7 years at that stage, it was going to be difficult to prove my learning. Some clients would only say that I've worked for them but wouldn't say whether I was any good. That was why we were turned down by 2 agents before the 3rd one said we could get in by putting my husband as first applicant.

Hope the expo gives you the info you're after.

Regards,
Karen

Hi Karen

I am (Iseries/Pseries/Wintel) Operations team leader for an IBM Business Partner so have known a few RPG programmers over the years. I am not sure if my HNC will count as a high enough qualification but i can only try.

I will post again once i have been to the expo

Thanks for the advice

Mick

If you've been in permanent employment you should be okay to the RPL since your employers know you. By the way are you a member of the British Computer Society? Even though I was the second applicant it helped that I was a member of the BCS since it's the ACS that had to approve me. I actually only joined the BCS because of that fact some years earlier

Regards,
Karen

Hello
There is definitely scope for you to pass the health test. With the right migration agent and excellet submissions it should be ok. Do you have letters from your doctor to support that you are cancer-free? You are now outside the 5 year remission period which is helpful.
