Thumbs up So have i planned this right? Kinda long...

So I am looking for some advice as at this point after months of the process I feel I have finally lost it haha. I find out this week if my company moves me to Australia from the USA. I will ether be in Melbourne (which is my goal to live there, but I will go to ether since they pay the move) or Sydney. Sydney seems to look like that will be the one.

Pets-I have figured this out, have contact Pet Moves to move our three dogs and am just waiting to give them the ok. Go figure that was the fastest part to figure out. Now, with the dogs coming, my soon to be wife will stay back in the states for the first 5 months of the pet process to give them as little time as can be in the holding station (should be 30 days roughly) since she wants to move, but its no big deal if she comes later.

That being said, I am looking at rentals in the Sydney are and one that caught my eye is;

AFFORDABLE AND ELEGANTLY DESIGNED!
$460 p.w.
2 YORK ST SYDNEY
Located in the historic Scotts Church site named Portico this mix of old and new is refreshing and unique apartement living.

I like it because it's cheap, simple for me as I will be alone and REALLY close to my work i think.... Point being, I could just ride a bike to work every day I would think. The logic to this is I get some place simple. I save money, do the research while out there then decide where to live for our family once I know the area better. I can get a car (landcruiser) when she gets closer to coming as it seems there is never a shortage of them for sale.

We want to move there, but without the company giving me the go ahead it sounds rather hard to get visa's. With the company giving the go ahead, this is something I have had a strong passion for some time.

Anyway, is my thinking seem somewhat normal or am I going about this the wrong way. Being that she will still be back here (along with family) I am not so worried about items as fedex can send a majority of our little items and the bigger ones we will sell before we move.

Thank you for the advice. This site has been such a help!

Hi Acon,

Welcome to the website.

Most people I know all move out together and then rent accommodation for a while before deciding where to buy. It's really up to you whether you move out together or separately.

I can't offer advice about Sydney since I don't know the area that well.

Good luck.

Karen

Thanks for the advice. it's a loooooong time nickname, but I hear the point.

Anyway, the logic to her staying back, from US to OZ the dog process is 6 months roughly. We do not want our dogs in the hold in OZ for longer then they need to be and she will have a place to stay and friends to help her back home.

Not to mention I might have to move out in a few weeks only to have to fly back for a week for my wedding in May and then back to OZ

Can you tell my hands are full? Haha.

Thanks.

You could find it very difficult getting a rental, in the inner City that will take 3 dogs - in fact you could have trouble anywhere in the metropolitan area. Home owners can only have 2 unless they have Council approval. Coming on your own is a good idea. You can look around and find where you would like to live and find somewhere that will take the dogs.

To clear it up some,
I MYSELF and moving to OZ right away if I get the job and I will live alone downtown for about 6 months. During that time I will look into locations and where to BUY a home outside the city. The point of me going early is to scout out the area. She is staying behind for the dog process and when she gets to OZ she will NOT be living in a apartment downtown with me as thats to small and we will buy a house (or rent if I can find a pet freindly one which seems like its just a better option to buy one.)

Thanks for the advice, I thought it was a given here where you can have three. This would be a big snag, but I really have no option until I live in a city before I could apply I guess.
