If you see the 5 sticky threads at the top of the forum page (they have big yellow stars against them), the "please read: helpful websites for your move to Australia" thread is the last of the sticky threads. The "visa timelines" links are about halfway down the page.

How do you get increased baggage allowance? Most airlines I have spoken to do not care that you are moving.

Get quotes for flights

Make sure you get increased baggage allowance in Writing (usually 40kg Eastbound, 64k Westbound)

There's only a couple of airlines that will give you increased baggage allowance, Singapore Airlines and I think Emirates. Just make sure that you get it in writing, we got Singapore Airlines to email us stating we have the extra baggage allowance, just covering all the bases really.

Absolute magic! I called Singapore airlines (luckily I was flying with them) 2 days before my flight, explained the situation and they allowed me to carry 40 kilos!!

The only thing you need to show is your one way ticket and Australian visa. This must also be your first entry into Australia under your new visa.

Hi,

Being in IT, your best bet is either Sydney or Melbourne. Sydney itself is very expensive to live (the most expensive place in the country!) but the burbs aren't too bad. Have a look at realestate.com.au to check out rentals - you'll then be able to compare prices and see which is more affordable.

There are good schools all over the country. The best thing to do is first agree on a place to live and then do the research on schools.
