Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.

Well if you've got in place or arranged things that are on the to do list, then basically try to see as many friends and family as possible.

If you're a cadbury's choc fan, then bring a stash with you because the consistency of the Cadbury's choc is different over here and affects the taste a bit. But if you do, don't forget to tick the box on the customs card you'll get on the plane to say you've got food. They'll let you through with it (we bought over gravy powder, prawn cocktail crisps, HP fruity sauce and they let us keep it).

Can't really think of anything else at the mo...if I don, I'll add on a PS!

Good luck with your move over
Dolly

Hi Dolly,

Thanks for the kind words and advice, i have my stash of galaxy choc and will be sure to declare it. I am looking forward to the move to Brisbane and am one of the lucky ones who has family out there but i still like to speak to people in the same position.

Do you have any get togethers in OZ for expats? Altho i am keen to integrate into the aussie way of life, itss till nice to be with people in similar positions.

Thanks again
Jo

Hi Jo,

We haven't had any meet-ups for forum members.....but perhaps it might be a good idea to try to organise one to two. I'm in VIC so I'll have a think about organising one here.

I have a question.. I have noticed you often compare the UK and Australia ( when talking about the differences in resumes and such) and i was wondering if it would be fair for me to also lump Canada in as well(since thats where I live).. Am I wrong in making this assumption?

Would it be similar there in paying taxes on everything? Are taxes included in the price because I have friends from the UK and that seems to be a major difference that we don't have taxes included in our prices.

Hi there,

I only have knowledge of what to do if you are coming from the UK (as I am English). If I added Canada in the list, then what about those from America, France, India, Dubai .... Scotland (LOL)?

The lists are for reference, if there's something that isn't on there, then try to Google the answer or put a thread on the forum.

The only countries I know of that do not include the tax in the price are Canada and the United States.

In Australia - as in New Zealand, Europe and Asia - you only have to worry about the price on the tag. Tax is always included in everything.
