Default daughter has been diagnosed, will this affect our visa?

Hi yesterday My oldest daughter (2yrs old next month), has been diagnosed with Kabuki Syndrome. The consultants dont know what affect if any that this will have on her health as it is an individual thing and just because 1 child suffers from ,for xample, a learning disability, it doesnt mean another child with it will suffer the same. We wont know anything for definate until a few years from now. She has been referred for a heart scan and kidney scan but the consultant said that she doesnt think there is a problem with these as she runs around and goes to the loo as normal. How do you think this will affect our visa application? We havent been for the medicals yet but the consultant said she will wwrite us a letter explaining this and can be as vague as she can be or as up front as we like. I told her to be upfront and any info she can put in would be great. was this the right thing to do?

Yes i think you did right as they will request more information for her to see a consultant on their panel so the more honest the better im not sure what it is so whats the worst case scenario for your daughter when she grows up
as far as i know as long as she wouldn't be a drain on the Australian government like she wouldn't be able to support her self then it should be fine as if it only going to be a learning disability that works it self out as you grow up then all should be ok im no expert though but hope you get some more positive news soon good luck

I don't have any experience with Australia - my visa medical stuff has all been with European countries - but in general the visa medical exams are mostly to determine that you aren't bringing a contagious disease into the country.

In France, they are mostly worried about tuberculosis, and there are a number of countries that will test for AIDS. A friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer just before their move to France, and all her care and treatment was done here in France right after her arrival. She certainly cost the French health care a bit, but there was never any question about treating her.

Don't try to be vague about it. Chances are, if she's not contagious, they won't worry about it except to make sure she gets signed up with the proper doctors to get whatever treatment she needs.
Cheers,
Bev

I'm sorry to hear that Dad2girls.

I think that you've done the right thing since you need to know that the Aussie health system will support your daughter.

Also don't forget that not everything you read on the internet will be 100% accurate either and there are different degrees of intellectual disabilities too. The brains of youngsters can actually form different pathways (I used to work as a technician measuring people's brainwaves many years ago ) which is why they deal with brain injury / illness much better than adults.

Regards,
Karen
