Visas valid for...?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long your visa is valid, or the approval, once you got it. My boyfriend and I are looking to move to Australia (prolly Brisbane), but since this won't be happening in the next 2-3 years we stopped researching for a while and put it on hold (with exception of me coming to this forum ). I need at least a years work experience after I finish university, so we can't go earlier, but since my job is on the demand list and he will be a student we thought we'd wait. Now i'm wondering how long your visa is valid after you've completed the proces. Is it possible to get it all done and then still stay here for say a year? Any ideas?

It may depend on the type of visa. With our skilled independent visa we had 1 year to validate the visa from time of the police check and then another 4 years after that. So yes there are time limits. You'll be better off checking with an agent just in case there have been any changes since I can't that info on the website.
