Hi Sam,

You want to be able to give them a short history of what you and your other half do, experience, ages and number of children that kind of thing.

What type of visa would be best for you?
How long are the processing times?
Are any areas in Oz better for your kind of skills?
Do they help with employment?
What services do they offer and what's the cost?

It was soooo long ago when we were asking these questions that I can't remember what we asked. I'm sure some of the other people on the forumcan add some more questions.

I remember different stands for different States but I don't remember employers at the expo we went to in Sandown. There was a job board but nothing relevant for us.

Regards,
Karen

Hi, when is the Edinburgh expo? My husband went to one in Manchester last year but since we are definitely going to Perth (subject to 457visa approval), it might be worth our while to go to it again especially since its only going to be a 40mintue drive for us to get there.

can anyone recommend perth based financial advisor?

We're moving to Perth and we think the climate in Perth is better than Brisbane which is a more tropical, humid climate (according to my hubby as I've not been to Brisbane).

However Perth is the more remote. It costs a couple hundred dollars to fly one way to Sydney or Melbourne. But its easy to drive around Perth and the suburbs and its great for families (so everyone told us when we spent 3 weeks there last december)

Hi again,
Thank god I can speak to someone who has actually been to Perth.. Where did you visit last year? Do you have a place in mind of where you want to live? Do you have kids? Mine are 6yrs,3yrs and 9months all boys..
Do you know much about the schools etc? Any info on Perth would be much appreciated.
Ps Are you going to work? If so where.
Sorry about all the questions but I have a permanent headache at the min.
I would love to keep in touch so you can advise me of your journey as you will be out there before us..
Thanks Janice.

Hi Janice,

I dont know if we'll be out before you but hopefully we'll get there by June.

We have 2 young kids 2.5years and a 10month old baby. We spent 10days at Hilarys Harbour Resort Apartments. North of Perth city. Only about 20minutes drive. From there we could get a bus (10minute) journey to a shopping centre (cant remember name) to supermarkets and shops etc... There's a beach in the resort which was busy as it was the school holidays with swimming lessons etc.. for kids and alot of families out since we were there over the xmas period.

There were alot of nice big houses out there. We were told alot of British people stay in an area called Joondaloop where you could get alot more for your money than in and around the CBD. We didnt really get a chance to drive out there to have a good look around.

There is a trainline which runs down the middle of the highway which you can park and ride (at least at the station near Hilarys anyway) Alot of the Brits from UK in my husband company bought places in an area called Duncraig which is near Hilarys.

However I quite liked the more central areas where there was a 'high street' you could walk to for butcher or bakery etc.. but they were all pretty expensive - Highgate, Subiaco East Perth (closer to the CBD where my husband willbe working) South Perth was a lovely area too. Initially we're thinking of renting a 2 bed 2 bathroom house/apartment and I've seen reasonably priced accommodation on the website in these locations.

If you look further out from the CBD there are plenty of 3/4bed houses that are reasonalbly priced. The only thing I'm not keen on is that thee suburbs are more americanised where shops and supermarkets etc... are in shopping malls rather in little 'high streets'

When I was shopping I spoke to the saleslady at the Clarins counter and she recommended Swan Valley. Its not near the beach but there were alot of newbuild developments out there. (detached houses) Probably takes a good 20minutes to get into CBD outwith rushhour in the car.

I'm not sure about schools but someone previously directed me to a website to check out the schools. Although there might be a link in Karens please read.

My plan is to find a place to live first, look into childcare options and then think about work. I've already met a couple of companies who are prepared to offer me a parttime position if I contact them again when I'm in Perth.
