Default Skilled trade - Sponsorship

First of all - a big thanks to all mods and posters - your experiance is so valuable to us all.

We have made a decision to move to Oz. (Family of 6 from Ireland)

I work as a Sales Manager in the timber industry. Quite specialised in its own way with industry specific qualifications but not on the skills list. I have lots of experiance in Sales (Building trade )and business (I owned a restaurant for 3 years)

My wife was a qualified hairdresser but gave up to look after kids. (Quit 10 years ago) (Currently a childminder at home but not registered)

My plea for help is as follows.

How can I get a visa?

Should I contact Australian examples/versions of my current employment for advice on gaining a job and how does the whole sponsership scheme work and are Aussie employers willing to do it or would it be too much "bother" to them

Thanks in advance

Hi Leolion,

Thank you on behalf of all the mods. It's a pleasure to help and make people's life a little easier.

Have you looked at the different types of visa available? If not there is a link in the "Please read...." post.

There are ways of getting in without a job but you need to check whether you have enough points for that.

Aussie employers will only sponsor people if they can't get that skill locally, and most jobs advertised assume that people already have the appropriate visa to work here.

Some agents also do job finding - I've not used that service so I'm not sure how good it is.

Do you have any emigration expos in Ireland? I know that they are popular in the UK and you can often get free consultations with agents. If you search around the posts there may be some recommendations from people moving from Ireland.

Regards,
Karen

Hi,

Were in a sort-of-similar position, my hubby was a joiner/carpenter 10 years ago, no a building estimator, we have just found out from GO MATILDA, that we will be able to get a state sponsor on hubbys old trade, he will have to do a skills test and will will have to remain in QLD for 2 yrs (I can live with that!), and he can look for work as a Estimator and not a joiner, it just gives them assurance that because trades like joiners and hairdresser are in demand, you will always find work. So she dosn't have to do hairdressing....hope this makes sense???

Hi - Thanks for the reply
Do you mean that we could apply for the visa on Mrs Leolion2177s profession but she would not have to actually work - and i would be free to look for any type of job that I could get.
Also how does the whole sponsorship scheme actually work - how would I find a sponsor and why would it be in his interests to sponsor me?

Thanks in advance
