Default Moving to melbourne

hi there, my family and i are looking to move to melbourne next year (after the long visa process) and need sone advice from people living in melbourne or the surrounding areas. I have 3 boys, aged 10, 7 and 2 and i am a practice nurse. we are really unsure about what suburbs to look out. we ideally want somewhere with good schools, about 30 mins from the beach and about 30-40 mins from hawthorn east (family live there). we understand that wherever you live there are rough areas and would ideally like to avoid these. i love shopping but don't want a major city, london makes me feel sick as its so busy but the odd day trip is fine!!!! can anyone guide us on areas? need to be within 15-20 mins of the nearest hospital or a doctors surgery also. (don't want to have to travel too far to work. we have been looking at narre warren, doncaster, wheelers hill, clayton - but our family are closer to the city and so they see it as too rural. we like rural but not in the middle of nowhere, i need to keep the boys entertained and out of trouble! otherwise we may aswell stay in the UK. any help gratefully appreciated.
Bonnie

I'm sure you've thought of this but please make sure that you are not breaching any copyright issues when sending the book out by email if the book is not a freebie.

Hi Karen,

I have deleted my message. I hadn't thought about copyright issues as it was emailed to me and loads of others on the other forum.

If the book is a freebie then it's not an issue, but what can happen with e-books is that they get sent via email to loads of people and the author doesn't get the fees that they are owed. The e-book may say it's a freebie or may have a website link that could be posted so that others can buy the e-book.

Regards,
Karen

Default Moving to Eltham in Melbourne from North Wales

Hi this is my first post on the forum.

My hubbie and I are moving out to Melbourne at the end of July - (permanent residency visa's came through on 28th Dec!!! Accepted an offer on our house so fingers crossed that goes through without any hitches). We have 2 children - Alice 7, Angus nearly 3 and a big kid Ashley who is 20. Ash is at uni in Liverpool but is going to come back and forth to carry on his course but we are trying to see if he can transfer to a uni in Melbourne. Hubby Craig is a bricklayer - noticed a few posts from Brickies on here! After alot of research we think we are going to move to the district of Eltham - does anyone have any feedback on that area (schools, housing) , how long does it take to get to the beach? How easy is it to get a short term rental (say 3 months)?
Thanks very much Morag

Hi Morag,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm amazed at the number of Brickies moving to Oz. Things must be bad in the UK!

Karen

hi

we are thinking of moving to Melbourne we are also from North Wales and my husband is also a bricklayer. We originally thought we would go to Perth - but we have read that there is not much work for Bricklayers in Perth (how true this is I am not sure) Paul is applying to Vetassess for his skills test hopefully in April and then we have to decide to which state to apply for state nominated visa 176. We have the choice of Western australia, Victoria or NSW areas close to Newcastle. Can anyone Australia based who knows the construction (bricklaying in particular) provide us with an insight where the building work is taking place? Most of the job searches bring up Queensland - but we can not go there on 176 visa.

It is a big decision - and we will have to stay in the state we choose for 2 years - so we dont want to get it wrong. Any advice appreciated

Hi Alaina
Just wondered why ou are going on a 176 Visa. We were able to get a permanent residency visa because Craig is a bricklayer - that means that we can live and work anywhere and do not need to be state sponsored. We used consultants to help us through the process. Might be worth asking a few questions. Good luck with your move!

hi Morag

The 176 visa is permanent, but we had to go on this visa because of the number of points we scored - Paul is 41 so the points on age reduced our total - and I am not on the skills list (local Government officer).

we are using agents aswell - we will be sending our papers this week to apply for vetassess skills assessment - where are you up to with your application?
